I. Printmaking: Drypoint: Investigation of Emotional Compartmentalization
This project was a personal attempt at processing and organizing the vast, and often confusing, range of emotions the human mind experiences. With a wooden box as a symbolic skull, I set out to explore the muddled entanglement of thoughts and feelings held within my brain. I wanted to identify, distinguish, analyze, and define some of the emotions I feel more strongly on a regular basis. In doing so, I hoped to achieve a sense clarity, or at least a better understanding, about the complexity of human emotion and connection.
The result was a collection of five small, distinct journals: Contentment, Grief, Lust, Anger, and Ambivalence. Each journal depicts my interpretation of the biological, psychological, visual, and linguistic manifestations or representations of each emotion.
The piece is meant to be an interactive and on-going project, with blank pages in each pamphlet for the user to fill in as their understanding strengthens or changes.
